ZURICH - Madonna's "Sticky & Sweet" tour rolled into Zurich this weekend on pace to become the highest-grossing concert tour ever by a solo artist, adding one more record to a career that turned 50 this month.
The tour, which opened in Cardiff, Wales, on Aug. 23, has grossed more than $40 million from its first 10 European dates, promoters said. It moves to North America in October.
The Material Girl, who turned 50 on Aug. 16, performs a two-hour set mixing new material from her album "Hard Candy" with reworked hits from her 25-year catalog, accompanied by a video montage that has drawn attention for juxtaposing images of Sen. John McCain with dictators.
A representative said the political imagery was "about provoking discussion," a phrase that has accompanied Madonna controversies for a quarter-century.
Her personal life has provided its own tabloid subplot: she and husband Guy Ritchie have denied persistent British reports of a marital split, and her name surfaced in the divorce proceedings of Yankees star Alex Rodriguez.
